It is well known around the world about China’s pollution problem. Well, it looks like they are taking innovative “green” methods to combat air pollution in a way that is both unique and inspiring. China will be building a fleet of “living” breathing buildings made up of thousands of plants and trees. The “Vertical Forest” building shown in the photo has begun construction in Nanjing.
What Is The Vertical Forest Building Called?
The project is being called Nanjing Green Towers. The “plant” buildings will stand 650 feet in the air and will be covered with over 1,100 trees and 2,500 cascading plants all round the skyscraper towers.
Not only is this building beautiful, but the Nanjing Green Towers is expected to absorb 25 tons of carbon dioxide per year. The trees / plants will also produce 130 pounds (60 kg) of oxygen each day to help fight the pollution problem in China.nd videos, learn everything you need to create a beautifully layered bed that’s uniquely your…
What Will Be In The Vertical Forest Buildings?
One of the towers (the taller of the two) will have offices on the 8-35th floors. The building will also contain a museum as well as a “green architecture school” as well as private rooftop club.
The smaller of the buildings will be a 247 room Hyatt hotel.
When Will The Vertical Forest Building Be Completed?
They are expected to be finished sometime in 2018!
Are the vertical forest buildings one of a kind?
Actually, no they are not the first to have been built. Stefano Boeri (an architectural firm) has designed several other “living / breathing” buildings in Milan, Italy and Lausanne, Switzerland. They also have more eco-friendly projects that they have completed such as the :
- Mountain Forest Hotel in China
- Urban Tree Lounge in Italy
Below the buildings there will be more eco-friendly shops, food markets, eateries and even a conference hall for corporate and special events.
What do you think about a “Vertical Forest Building” that essentially breathes? Do you think that building more of these skyscrapers will have an effect on the pollution problem in China? Please leave a comment below and discuss.
I for one, think that this is a wonderful idea. Especially if this green way of thinking catches on and more and more of these living, breathing vertical buildings are built around the world! Kudos to the developers and the Green Tower Nanjing project!
