It took me 41 years to finally decide to step out of my comfort zone and experience world travel. In retrospect, I wish I had made the decision years earlier. There will always be excuses to “Not Travel”, but when will you take the time for yourself to visit that far off land that you have always dreamed about? When is the right time for you to travel? What is holding you back? The answer will be different for everyone, but we all have that window that allows us that opportunity.
Many people put off travel because they are raising their children. Many say that they can’t take off work… Maybe next year! Many say that they can’t afford it.. When will you? Here is a quote that I like that helps put things in perspective for me :
- “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
You will get what you focus on.. If you desire to travel, why not put your focus on achieving this goal? Travel has so many rewards. If it is your dream to see the world, experience new cultures and literally change your perspective on life, then find a way that you can make it work.
Traveling Doesn’t Have To Be Expensive
There may be some places that just are not financially feasible for you to travel to. That doesn’t mean that you should give up on your dreams. Have you ever looked into hostels? Yes, you may share a bathroom or even a room with other travelers, but you know what? It is cheaper than any hotel that you are likely to find in your home town! You will also meet new people and make new friends! You can even offer your services at a hotel and stay for free. For instance, hostelworld has a message board that has job listings for hostels that will trade free room and board for a little volunteer work..
Use Those Credit Card Airline Miles
Do you have a travel credit card? Maybe you should consider getting one. If you are a responsible credit card owner of course. You can pay the bills that you are paying anyway and rack up a lot of miles over time. I received 40,000 miles (about $400 in airfare) just for signing up for an American Express card as long as I spent $3000 over the course of 3 months. I simply paid my bills with that card and that threshold was easily met. That alone paid for half of a round trip to Asia, which is 12,000 miles away from me! I also have a Capital One Venture Card that awards me 2% (that I choose to go towards travel miles) on everything that I purchase. Just everyday living, lightens the load on your travel bill!
There are many ways to lighten the financial load when it comes to travel. Don’t let this be an excuse for you!
Rent A Condo for Two Weeks, a Month or More With No Lease!
Hotels are nice, but the comforts of home is even better! There are many apps out there like Airnb that connects you with homeowners that will rent their condo to you without a lease. Renters will leave ratings for you after your stay and you also leave a review about the condo (and owners) that you rented from. I have used Airnb many times and have loved the service. I rented condos for about $100 a week and even cheaper if you paid for longer term. Of course, this depends on what country you are traveling to. “Money” is an excuse that many people make. Don’t let this be an excuse for you to explore the world.
Budget Airlines That Offer Happy Hour Prices
Search for airlines that offer happy hour prices. For one hour a day you get a great discount on traveling. With a little research you shouldn’t have to pay regular airfare prices.
I Have Kids – World Travel Will Come Later
I used this as an excuse and why I didn’t embark on world travel until my daughter was off in college. Yes, if you have kids this can limit your travel options but it doesn’t have to eliminate them. Take them with you if possible.. If not, camping trips are as fun and memorable as they have ever been. Just traveling outside of your zip code to someplace new is very rewarding and refreshes your soul! You will make memories with your family that you and they will never forget. Just get out there and explore something new! It doesn’t really matter what it is! Your happiness will shine through and your family will become even closer.
Stop Using Excuses To Put Off Travel
The bottom line is that there will ALWAYS be an excuse to put off travel till later. However, there is usually a solution to each excuse that you make. Find out the solution to whatever excuse that you have that is holding you back. Solve the problem that is holding you back and you will embark on some life changing experiences that we can assure, that you will never regret.
