The TCT (Trans Canada Trail) shown in the map above is the longest hiking / biking / trekking trail in the world. In length, it is a 24, 000 Km in length (nearly 15,000 miles). The TCT trail was first initiated back in 1992, commemorating Canada’s 125th year. The Trans Canada Trail will be enjoyed for multiple reasons. For those who love to hike nature trails, cyclists, water enthusiasts, country hiking, as well as through urban areas. The wide diversity is what makes TCT trail incredibly unique and a way to link approximately one thousand Canadian communities all across the majestic countryside.

The TCT Trail is also known as “The Great Trail” and is over 90% complete and will be completely finished in 2017! Here you can explore the map and click on each section of the trail to view areas that are perfect for you. You can view whether an area is a wilderness section, urban, rural, etc… You also can view and see if the trail is ideal for activities like biking, cycling areas, horseback riding areas, snowmobiling areas, cross country skiing areas, hiking, walking, jogging, etc…

80% of Canadians can be hiking The Great Trail within 30 minutes.
How Is The Trans Canada Trail Maintained?
Individual sections of the TCT trail are owned and maintained by local organizations. Each community and/or national agency is responsible for taking care of their section of the trail.

Who Pays For TGT
The Great Trail is a gift for Canadians for Canadians. The Government has funded more than 35 million dollars for the trail. 10 million has been paid for by Paraks Canada in 2010. As extra incentive to complete the remaining 3000 kilometers in 2017 the Government of Canada matches 50 cents on a dollar for donations.
